A Vermilion man died last week in an accident with heavy equipment.

According to the Sandusky Register, 82-year-old Raymond Dillon was killed when he suffered a severe head laceration from being struck by a backhoe.

Dillon was pronounced dead at the scene on Joppa Road in Vermilion.

As we transition from fall to winter, the Ohio State Highway Patrol is reminding drivers to always remain aware when behind the wheel, specifically when traveling during the morning or evening hours.

During the month of November, the Patrol tends to see an uptick in deer-related crashes due to the combination of peak deer breeding season and the end of daylight-saving time.

According to Patrol stats, there have been 111,000 deer-involved crashes since the beginning of 2021.

Of those crashes, 49 were fatal, resulting in 50 total deaths.

Governor Mike DeWine announced that Ohio’s 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline has responded to more than one million calls, text messages, and online chats since launching in July 2022.

Ohioans experiencing a behavioral health crisis can call or text 988, or chat online to receive free, confidential support from a trained specialist 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Ohio’s 988 call centers are staffed by specialists trained to respond to crises, provide support, and connect individuals with resources in their communities.

The City of Norwalk General Services Department will begin their two-week fall hydrant flushing program today.

Flushing may result in cloudy or discolored water.

Residents should run cold water for approximately 15 minutes or until the water is clear.

The 2027 Miss Maple City pageant is set for this Saturday in Norwalk at the Ernsthausen Performing Arts Center at Norwalk High School.

According to Norwalk Ohio News, 21 women will compete for the title.

There will also be six young girls competing for the title of 2027 Miss Maple City Teen.

The winner of Miss Maple City will take home a $500 scholarship, a sash, a crown, a floral bouquet, and will represent Norwalk at the 2027 Miss Ohio Scholarship Program in June in Mansfield.
