Governor Mike DeWine announced that 260 census tracts in Ohio have been named federal Opportunity Zones, creating stronger pathways to long-term investment and economic growth in more communities. 

The federal Opportunity Zones program encourages private investment in economically distressed communities by providing tax benefits to eligible investors.

The list includes two zones in Erie County and one in Huron County.

Sandusky County and Ottawa County both have one zone and Lorain County comes in with five.

Around 15 inmates from Lorain County are being jailed in Huron County.

The Sandusky Register says that the 16 female inmates are in Norwalk now because of overcrowding in Lorain County.

As of this week, the Huron County Jail roster is at 76 inmates.

Most of the women are there due to misdemeanors and contempt charges, but a few there are charged with rape, aggravated robbery and murder.

A new website to help with shelter dogs…

According to the Norwalk Reflector, the website, Friends of the Huron County Dog Warden or FHCDW.org, allows for visitors to donate directly to them or purchase wish-list items for the animals at the Huron County Dog Warden site on Shady Lane Drive in Norwalk.

A charity basketball preview scrimmage is set for Friday, November 20^th at The Convocation Center at St. Paul High School.

The game will feature boys basketball teams from St. Paul, Norwalk and Buckeye Central facing each other with money raised going to the Steve Gray Memorial Foundation scholarship and the Steve and Stephanie Frazee Scholar award.

Both Gray and Frazee died unexpected in the last year.

95.3 WLKR will broadcast the scrimmage live.

The Norwalk Arts Center is set to announce their 2027 Season Lineup this evening.

Norwalk Ohio News reports that the announcement will happen tonight from 7 to 8 pm at 22 East Main Street.

The celebration announcement event will include fun, games and excitement said NAC executive director Dina Lukasko.
