Fire in Milan on Wednesday afternoon…

The Norwalk Reflector reports that the blaze took place on East Front Street, claiming the lives of 3 dogs.

No one was home at the time, with the house appearing to have severe damage.

Students are back in class today in Norwalk…but that wasn’t the case yesterday. 

School was canceled for the day after a cafeteria light fixture caught on fire at the high school, causing some damage with a strong odor.

A boil advisory is in effect until 9 pm tonight for certain locations in Erie County. 

This, after a water main break on Cleveland Road East yesterday…

The boil advisory covers homes on West Old Lake Road, Ceylon Road, Depot Street, the addresses of 1020 to 4018 Cleveland Road East and the subdivisions of By the Shores, Bayberry, Beachwood Villas, Huron Green and Land’s End Drive.

This is for Erie County Water customers only.

The cost of borrowing is on the rise.

The Fed has hiked interest rates again…by three-quarters-of-one-percent…in hopes of slowing runaway inflation.

And fed chairman Jerome Powell says, more interest rate increases may be on the way, before the year is out.

A group called the Ohio Debate Commission has cancelled two scheduled debates featuring candidates for governor and the U-S Senate.

The cancellation came after Republicans failed to accept invitations by Tuesday’s deadline.

They did so, with the Republican National Committee accusing the Executive Director of the Ohio Debate Commission of having a ‘a long history of anti-Republican rhetoric and activism’.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol joined five other state law enforcement agencies to focus on criminal patrol and marijuana eradication. 

During the recent 4-day project, over 1,500 grams of marijuana was seized and two felony marijuana arrests were made.

Overall, 43 felony drug arrests were also made in Ohio.

One of the hot spots for the April 2024 solar eclipse is expected to be the city of Avon Lake.

It’ll be the first, full solar eclipse in this area since 1806.

Hope Bonos of the Lorain County Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security says, they’re getting the word out…as they anticipate huge crowds…

Hope says, communities in other states that were in the direct path of the last solar eclipse 5 years ago reported a surge of people arriving, and massive traffic jams.

An exhibit…featuring Lorain’s Hispanic Heritage…opens today at the Oberlin Public Library.

It was initially unveiled about a year ago by the Lorain Historical Society at the Carnegie Center in Lorain.

The traveling exhibit will move onto Lorain County Community College next month.

The Lorain County Commissioners have awarded another round of federal, COVID rescue grants to a dozen non-profits.

The list includes;

  • The Northern Ohio Youth Orchestra
  • The Lorain County Free Clinic
  • and Common Ground in Oberlin

If you love pizza…the place to be tonight is Avon Lake High School… for the Great Pizza Bake Off.

It’s a fundraiser for the North Coast Rotary, and will feature the area’s top pizza makers.
