The Ohio Department of Natural Resources is reporting that a 6-year-old child drowned Saturday at East Harbor State Park in Marblehead.  

…This, according to various media outlets.

The state says the child was swimming in a swim zone of the beach area when the incident occurred.  

A Euclid man has been sentenced to 9 years and 11 months in prison in connection with a 2021 shooting at Cedar Point Sports Center in Sandusky.

According to the Sandusky Register, 42-year-old Mario Lacy Senior, a basketball coach, was accused of shooting another man, a 33-year-old Euclid man, in the parking lot of the facility after an argument inside.  

The shooting victim received non-life threatening injuries.

It’s only a drill.

That’s what Amherst Police want you to know about today’s ‘active shooter training exercise’ at Nord Middle School in Amherst.

The drill will feature a number of agencies…including…

  • The Lorain County Sheriff’s Office
  • and the U-S Border Patrol

Numbers went up in the new Huron County Public Health Weekly COVID-19 Update.

129 cases this time, up from 105 the previous reporting period. 

The average age of cases increased from 38 to 41, with the highest number of cases for this week in the 31 to 40 age range. 

Ten of the eleven zip codes in Huron County reported cases, with the highest infection rate in Bellevue.

Perkins Police in Sandusky are informing residents of a scam alert. 

They say there’s a social media post circulating about a baby being located behind an apartment complex in Perkins Township.

That post, which contains two photos of a child, says a person has the lost baby in his home. 

Police say the post is likely a scam and they have not had any reports of a lost or found child in the township.

Governor Mike DeWine has announced that 13 local law enforcement agencies will receive a total of $8.2 million to help them prevent and investigate incidents of violent crime in their communities.

The grants represent the eighth round of the Ohio Violent Crime Reduction Grant Program, which includes:  

The Ottawa County Prosecutor’s Office will receive $254,000 to create the Ottawa County Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault Response Team.

The Elyria Police Department will receive $2.7 million to hire twelve new officers to allow for more proactive policing initiatives to prevent violent crime. 

In Avon Lake…police are investigating several cases involving electronic scams…

  • One in which a senior was convinced to buy gift cards and give the numbers to a person on the phone…
  • and another…in which someone’s identity was stolen to open a bank account

Second Harvest Food Bank is set for a trip to Huron County today.

They’ll be at Willard Parks and Rec on West Laurel Street,  where they’ll host  a free drive-thru mobile food pantry from 3 to 5 pm.
